Symptoms of being Sober
PAW is a Syndrome = a group of symptoms Long term withdrawal and brain dysfunction
Was found in 75% - 95% of 150 recovering people in a test group tested
The Brain Dysfunction was believed to contribute in most relapses
It is important to recognize and learn to manage PAW It’s a waiting Game
The expected goal is for the PAW symptom episodes to
1. Decrease in severity with time, REM’s, Groceries, rest, meetings
2. Over more time passing if the brain health is properly reinforced
a. Clean non stimulation food
b. Plenty of water
c. Exercise
d. Sunlight
e. Positive experiences
f. Accepting positive community
g. Uplifting music
h. Calming beauty
i. Mental health and coping learning
The less you do to strengthen your resistance against the syndrome the weaker your sobriety resolve, your mental health, and physical health will be
= 1. Relationship,
= 2. Self image,
= 3. Sleep
= 4. Calmness Issues will gain strength until they take over again
Expressed as 1.
1. active addiction,
2. depression,
3. anxiety,
4. overwhelmed,
5. can’t stand it I=tis
6. you just start thinking I’d like to get high
a. just one time
b. for a minute
c. I hate this or that or them or myself
d. I have way too much to think about to go to a meeting
e. I just need a little benzo
f. I think my psych meds are off
g. I need a new psych med to go with it
h. I must get to the doctor,
i. The right medication is my answer
j. The doctor prescribed so………I am still clean
k. Then you stop thinking
l. The poison
1. Inability to think clearly
2. Memory problems
3. Emotional overreactions or numbness
4. Sleep disturbances
5. Physical coordination problems
6. Stress sensitivity

The syndrome may improve expressing with less severity over the first year to 3 years Of emotional and physical sobriety It is believed by many that the occurrences may express less often And further apart after 5 years of emotional and physical sobriety.
Many of these symptoms will be present on & off for the rest of our lives.
